De Jong agrees with United, Barca won’t let him go now

Last week, United reached an agreement to buy De Jong for 65 million euros, with bonuses.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said that Frenkie de Jong is not for sale, despite Manchester United agreeing on a transfer.

“De Jong is a Barcelona player and until we have to or have an interest in selling him, we don’t want to sell him,” Laporta said, the BBC reported.

In 2019, De Jong moved from Ajax to Barcelona, with which he signed a five-year contract. Spanish media reported that Barcelona would have to sell the highest-earning footballers in the club in order to stabilize the financial situation. The BBC reported that the transfer agreement is still valid, but that negotiations to complete the deal are slow.

“We know that De Jong has other offers. If at some point we are interested, we will consider them, but right now, we are not selling a footballer,” said Laporta.
