Manchester United does not yet know if its player Cristiano Ronaldo will go with the team on the pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.
As reported by Sky, the 37-year-old Portuguese did not appear at the training center for family reasons, which the club accepted. Ronaldo has expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford, in case a suitable offer arrives, as he wants to play in the Champions League.
He was supposed to join his teammates for training on Monday, but he stayed in Portugal, where he has been training in the training center of the national team for several days.
Sky has been told that Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes has spent several weeks selling clubs on the ‘Cristiano Effect’, providing interested parties with documentation of his client’s huge sponsorships, social media popularity, and influence in new markets.
Among those clubs is Chelsea, whose new co-owner Tod Boley is considering the possibility of a transfer. United insists that Ronaldo is not for sale but could change that stance if a good offer arrives.
The club does not want that situation to overshadow the work of the new coach Erik ten Hag on the preparations or the upcoming transfers, since Tyrell Malacia will be introduced soon and the arrival of Christian Eriksen is expected.
Also, an agreement in principle was reached with Barcelona regarding Frenkie de Jong, and negotiations with Lisandro Martinez from Ajax are progressing.
Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions last season and was the club’s top scorer. United will begin their pre-season tour on Tuesday in Bangkok against Liverpool and will also play friendlies in Australia against Melbourne City, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa.
United starts their US tour very soon and all of the games will be available for betting.
